A table of twelve.

The first dinner with the first stayers. Papaya from the garden.
Twelve seats filled slowly. A writer two weeks into a draft. A founder between rounds who said he had not cooked in a year, then quietly took over the rice. Two friends from the village who brought fish and stayed for the guitar. A photographer who said nothing for an hour, then asked the question the whole table answered for the next two.
The table is not a stage.
The menu was whatever the garden agreed to. Green papaya two ways. The fish grilled over the last of the fire-circle wood. Rice the founder defended like a thesis. Mangoes that were better than they had any right to be. A bottle of something local went around twice and sensibly retired.
The talk went from visas to fathers to whether a place can change the way a week feels. We think it can. The rice was good. The fish was better. Twelve people, one conversation. It breaks apart and comes back together all evening.
We are keeping the rule that nobody presents anything. Twelve people who came for the same reason do not need a host. They need enough rice and a fire that is already lit.
First Sunday of every month. One long table. Bring something from your kitchen if you want. The rice is handled.
